Currency
Money matters in Egypt
Egypt's currency is the Egyptian pound (EGP). Exchange bureaux operate at airports, banks and major hotels; ATMs are ubiquitous in Alexandria and accept international cards. Visa and Mastercard are accepted at hotels, larger restaurants and shops, but keep cash for taxis, cafés and markets.
- Indicative rate: check your bank on travel dates; rates move.
- Tipping ("baksheesh") of 10% is customary in restaurants; EGP 20–50 for porters and drivers is appreciated.
- Conference fees are payable in USD or EGP as listed on the Fees page.
