About Alexandria

Founded by Alexander the Great in 331 BC, Alexandria was the ancient world's greatest port — home to the Pharos lighthouse, one of the Seven Wonders, and the Great Library that made the city the knowledge hub of antiquity. Twenty-three centuries later, both legacies continue: the modern Bibliotheca Alexandrina anchors the corniche, and the Port of Alexandria together with El Dekheila handles roughly 60% of Egypt's foreign trade.

Delegates will find a walkable seafront city: the 20-kilometre Corniche, the Citadel of Qaitbay standing on the lighthouse's foundations, Graeco-Roman theatres and catacombs, and a café culture that has hosted writers and merchants for centuries.
