Since Alexandria location is along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea the Alexandrian cuisine is unique and seafood is the core of the Mediterranean cuisine heritage. For instance all manner of shellfish are widely used in soups, stews, and pastas. Anchovies, fresh and cured, are widely eaten in addition to various white-fleshed fish.
Other fish served like swordfish, grouper, eel, sole cuttlefish, shrimp, crab, squid, and octopus. Alexandria is famous for the Mediterranean seafood taste cuisine and have the best seafood restaurants in the country
Some other famous, local and cheaper foods are served like fuul and flafel, these are native been, fuul is boiled with vegetables, sometimes mashed with onions, tomatoes and spices., flafel is fuul beans soked and mixed with spices, formed into patties, then deep fried. These patties garnished with tomatoes, lettuces, and tahina sauce. Both fuul and flafel are stuffed into aysh (a dry wheat bread). Kushari is a classically Egyptian dish. It is a mixture of rice, pasta and pulses served with a sprinkling of crispy fried onion and a dollop of a spicy tomato sauce and then dressed to taste with hot chilli oil and lemon juice, and is simply one of the greatest dishes of the world.

In Alexandria you can also find delicious appetizers available at street vendors lining the coast (Corniche) like Corn on the cob (dorra mashwey) and Loqmat al-Qadi. It is small, round donuts which are crunchy on the outside and soft and syrupy on the inside. They may be served with dusted cinnamon and powdered sugar. Mint teas are also very popular.
